A language exam is a great way to verify or prove your language level and obtain a certificate that is recognized at schools and at work. Whether you are aiming for an international exam (e.g., Cambridge, IELTS, TOEFL) or need confirmation of your level for study or employment, we will help you choose the right exam and prepare you so that nothing takes you by surprise.
At PELICAN, we organize language exams in six world languages at levels B1, B2, and C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). What’s more, anyone can take our state language exam—not just students who have previously attended a language course with us.
Internal language exams at PELICAN Language School are an official and straightforward way to prove your language level for study, work, or personal development. The exams are based on the standards of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and focus on the practical use of language in real-life situations – they test reading comprehension, listening, speaking, and writing.
Internal exams can be taken at levels B1 (intermediate), B2 (upper intermediate), and C1 (advanced) in the following languages: English, German, Spanish, Czech, French, and Russian. After successfully passing the exam, the candidate receives a PELICAN school certificate, which serves as official proof of language competence – suitable for CVs, school entrance exams, or professional purposes. Internal exams are also an ideal step before a state or international exam, as they help reveal strengths and areas for further improvement.
PELICAN organizes state language exams in English, German, French, Spanish, Russian, and Czech at levels B2 and C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The practical application of the SLE certificate begins in secondary school, and you can use it in entrance exams, as a university student, when traveling abroad, and in your future working life. Upon successful completion of the exam, a State Language Exam Certificate is issued.
A certificate of language proficiency at level B1 can be useful when looking for a job or applying to college. For some languages, presenting this certificate will allow you to be exempt from the college entrance exam (always check the latest information on the university’s website).
For foreigners, knowledge of Czech at level B1 (or higher) is essential for studying at university.
Since its establishment, PELICAN Language School has specialized in preparing students for language exams and organizes these exams itself (B1 exam, SLE basic, SLE general). In 2018, our school officially became a preparation center for Cambridge English Language Assessment, which means that at PELICAN you can prepare for the exams in one of the preparation courses that we organize regularly.
Language exams vary in focus, level of difficulty, and purpose. Some are intended for study or work abroad (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL), while others are internationally recognized certificates with unlimited validity (e.g., Cambridge exams). The choice of the appropriate exam depends on your goals and the requirements of your school or employer.
If you are unsure of your level, we recommend taking a placement test or consulting with an expert. Language exams are graded according to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference (A1–C2). Choosing the right level significantly increases your chances of passing the exam.
The length of the language exam depends on its type and level. Most exams last approximately 2 to 4 hours. The oral part may take place on the same day or separately, depending on organizational conditions.
The validity of a language certificate depends on the type of exam. Some certificates are valid indefinitely (e.g., Cambridge exams), while others are typically valid for two years (e.g., IELTS or TOEFL).
You can prepare for language exams in Brno through specialized preparatory courses, individual lessons, or self-study with official materials. It is important to become familiar with the exam format and practice all the skills that will be tested.
If you fail, you can re-register for the language exam. We recommend focusing on the weaker parts of the test and undergoing targeted preparation before your next attempt.
A language certificate may be a required condition for admission to a university, employment abroad, or part of the recruitment process. Language exams enable you to obtain official and internationally recognized confirmation of your language proficiency.
It is necessary to register for language exams in advance, preferably as early as possible. We recommend that you keep track of the current dates and application deadlines.
